TM 55-1520-240-T 7-5.4 POWER STEERING SYSTEM OPERATIONAL CHECK (Continued) 7-5.4 TASK RESULT 1. Check that BRAKE STEER circuit breaker (1) If circuit breaker is open, close it.  If it opens again, is closed. go to task 7-4.5. WARNING Be   careful   when   working   near   aft right wheel. Sudden wheel movement can cause injury. CAUTION Do not operate power steering system when helicopter is stationary. Damage to equipment can result. 2. Set SWIVEL SWITCH (2) to LOCK. 3. Using a pencil or tape, mark a vertical line (line N) on the aft right landing gear swivel housing (3) and spindle (4). 4. Set SWIVEL switch (2) to STEER. 5. Maintain hand pressure to the left on wheel. Wheel shall swivel counterclockwise until lower line Have helper  slowly rotate STEERING N moves 2-11/16 to 3-3/32 inches from upper line CONTROL knob (5) to extreme RIGHT - N.  If wheel does not move, go to task 7-5.5. position.  Measure travel. If wheel moves but distance between lines is not 2- 11/16 to 3-3/32 inches, replace STEERING CON- TROL box.  Refer to TM 55-1520-240-23. NOTE ·  Pressure    on    the    aft    right    wheel simulates ground friction and prevents     overtravel     into     out-of- phase zone. ·  All    dimensions    in    inches    are measured around housing. 6. Have helper slowly return STEERING CON- Wheel shall return to neutral position.  Lower line N TROL knob (5) to neutral (center position). shall align within  0.06 inch of upper line N. If wheel does not return to neutral, go to task 7-5.6. If lines are not within 0.06 inch, zero adjust STEERING CONTROL box.  Refer to TM 55-1520-240-23. TASK RESULT 7. Maintain hand pressure to the right on wheel. Wheel shall swivel clockwise until lower line N Have helper  slowly rotate STEERING CON- moves 1-15/16 to 2-5/32 inches from upper line N. TROL knob (5) to extreme LEFT position. Measure travel. 8. Have helper slowly return STEERING CON- If wheel does not move, go to task 7-5.5.  If dis- TROL knob (5) to neutral position. tance between lines is not 1-15/16 to 2-5/32 inches, replace STEERING CONTROL box.  Refer to TM 55-1520-240-23. Wheel shall return to neutral position.  Lower line N shall align within  0.06 inch of upper line N. If wheel does not return to neutral, go to task 7-5.6. If lines are not within 0.06 inch, adjust STEERING CONTROL box.  Refer to TM 55-1520-240-23. 9. Have helper lift guard (7) and set BRAKE STEER switch (8) to OFF. 10.   Set SWIVEL switch (2) from STEER to LOCK to STEER. 11.   Manually turn wheel slowly clockwise.  Use PWR STEER caution light (9) shall come on when tape to measure travel. lower line N is 2-3/16 to 2-1/2 inches from upper line N. If caution light (9) comes on too soon or too late, adjust out-of-phase switch (8).  Refer to TM 55-1520-240-23. If caution light (9) does not come on, go to task 7-5.7. 12.   Manually return wheel to neutral.  Have PWR STEER caution light (9) shall go out.  If not go helper  set SWIVEL switch (2) to UNLOCK to task 7-5.8. and then to STEER. 13.   Manually turn wheel slowly counter- PWR STEER caution light (9) shall come on when clockwise.  Use tape to measure travel. lower line N is 3-3/16 to 3-13/16 inches from upper line N. If caution light (9) comes on too soon or too late, adjust wheel-out-of-phase switch (8).  Refer to TM 55-1520-240-23. If caution light (7) does not come on, go to task 7-5.7. 14.   Manually return wheel to neutral.  Have PWR STEER caution light (9) shall go out.  If not go helper  set SWIVEL switch (2) to UNLOCK to task 7-5.8. and then to STEER.
