Check that HOIST CONT and HOISTCABLE CUTTER circuit breakers (1 and2) are closed.2. Check that winch shift lever (3) is set to3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.RESCUE.Hold pressure line (5) to shutoff valve (6).Set HOIST MASTER switch (7) toPILOT.Hold pressure line (8) to brake on winch(4). Push in and turn pushbutton (9) onshutoff valve (6). Release pushbutton.Remove Iockwire from knob (10) on winchcontrol valve (11).Turn knob (10) in one direction. Reel outenough wire rope (cable) (12) to rig. Releaseknob. Have helper keap slight dragon ca-ble. Helper must wear gloves.Rig winch (4) for rescue mode (TM 56-1620-240-10).Turn and release pushbutton (9).Turn knob (10) in any direction. Releaseknob.Turn HOIST control (13) to OUT.Release control to OFF when cable (12)stops reeling out .NOTEWith cable reeled out, an inspectionfor broken strands or definite bendscan be performed.If either circuit breaker (1 or 2) is open, close it. IfHOIST CONT circuit breaker (1) opens again, go totask 14-1.5. If HOIST CABLE CUTTER circuitbreaker (2) opens again, go to task 14-1.6.If lever (3) not at RESCUE, set it to RESCUE. Iflever can not be set to RESCUE, replace winch (4),Pressure surge should be felt on pressure line (5).If not, go to task 7-2.4.Pressure surge should be felt on pressure line (8).If not, replace shutoff valve (6). Push button (9)shall remain locked when released. If it comes out,replace shutoff valve (6).Cable (12) shall reel off winch (4), if it does not,turn knob (10) in opposite direction. If cable stilldoes not reel off winch, replace winch,Pushbutton (9) shall come out. If it does not, re-place shutoff valve (6).Winch (4) shall not operate. If it does, replaceshutoff valve (6).Winch (4) shall reel out cable (12) within 90secondsand stop when 2-1/2 wraps of first layerof cable remain on winch drum. If winch does notreel out cable, go to task 14-1.7. If cable takeslonger than 90secondsto reel out, replace winch.If winch does not stop when2-1/2wraps remainon drum, adjust winch out-limit switch, TM 55-1520-240-23. If switch can not be adjusted, re-place winch.14-1.4TASKRESULTDo not allow cable end to reel inand jam in a pulley. Damage towinch, pulley, or airframe can oc-cur.11. Turn HOIST control (13) to IN. Releasecontrol to OFF when cable (12) stopsreeling in. Have helper keep slight dragon cable. Helper must wear gloves.Winch (4) shall reel in cable (12) wlthin 90seconds and stop automatically when 26 to26-1/2 feet of cable remain extended. Cablelength is measured from sta 120 passagewaybulkhead to cable ball end. If winch does not reelin cable, go to task 14-1.8. If cable takes longerthan 90secondsto reel in, or cable binds or spoolsunevenly, replace winch. If winch stops too soonortoo late, (26 - 26-1/2 feet of cable not?d),adjust rescue in-limit switch, TM 55-1520-240-23. If switch can not be adjusted, re-place winch,GO TO NEXT PAGE14-7
